BEST GOVERNOR OF THE MONTH: Dr. Alex Otti Abia State Governor
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State emerges the best governor of the month, for his land mark developmental projects in Abia state. He has implemented several initiatives across various sectors to enhance the state’s development. His presence is very visible in all the communities in Abia state:Infrastructure Development:Road Rehabilitation: The administration has reconstructed numerous roads, including University Road, Green Avenue, Udeagbala Road, Shallom Road, and many others, improving transportation and connectivity within the state.
Healthcare Improvements:
Facility Upgrades: The government renovated the Abia Diagnostic Centre in Umuahia and the Abia Specialist Hospital in Amachara, among others, equipping them with state-of-the-art medical equipment to enhance healthcare delivery.
Primary Health Centers: A project was launched to rebuild and retrofit 200 Primary Health Care Centers within 100 days, aiming to strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots level.
Educational Reforms:
School Remodeling: The administration initiated the remodeling and retrofitting of 173 primary schools and 54 secondary schools, mentioning but few, to provide functional and high-quality education.

Teacher Recruitment and Welfare: Plans were made to recruit 5,000 teachers, focusing on young graduates in education, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The retirement age for teachers was increased from 60 to 65 years, accompanied by an improved pay package to make the teaching profession more attractive.
Economic Initiatives:
Geometric Power Plant: The commissioning of the $800 million Geometric Power Plant in Aba, with a capacity of 181 megawatts, aims to provide consistent electricity supply to Aba and nine local governments within Abia State, bolstering economic activities in the region.
Industrial Park Development: In partnership with private investors, the government embarked on establishing the Abia Innovation Industrial Park (AIIP) at Owaza, which will host a modular refinery, manufacturing plant, and incubation center, positioning it as one of the biggest industrial parks in West Africa.
Security Enhancements:
Operation Crush: A multi-agency security task force named ‘Operation Crush’ was launched to combat crime, particularly in areas previously notorious for kidnapping and other criminal activities, restoring safety and security in the state.
Environmental and Sanitation Efforts:
Waste Management Overhaul: The administration declared a state of emergency on waste disposal, engaging capable private firms for waste evacuation in Aba and Umuahia, significantly improving sanitation and cleanliness in urban areas.
